Episode 34 – New Research by Adobe on Speakable Searches

In episode 34 of the Canonical Chronicle we go over:

Ross: 00:00 You can find me in the club,

Ross: 00:02 bottle full of bub, look Mommy,

Ross: 00:03 I got the X if you’re into taking drugs.

Ross: 00:06 Welcome to Canonical Chronicle episode 5,000,602.

Ross: 00:11 Let’s get into it.

Ross: 00:18 A new study by Adobe says that 48% of consumers are using voice

Ross: 00:22 for general web searches. Now when I heard this, I was like.

Speaker 2: 00:30 I think I can smell shite.

Ross: 00:32 But, when you look into it in more detail,

Ross: 00:34 they are saying that not one in two people are using voice search completely,

Ross: 00:39 they’re just saying that they use it at some point on their mobile.

Ross: 00:42 As an SEO, if you want to optimize for voice, and I really don’t know why you’d want to do that,

Ross: 00:48 remember, there is a type of schema called speakable schema,

Ross: 00:52 which allows you to mark up speakable parts of the text on your page.

Ross: 00:57 So not only can you enjoy high rankings with zero clicks due to answer boxes

Ross: 01:01 and rich snippets, you can also get your traffic taken away from you by Alexa or Google Assistant.

Ross: 01:08 Google have now added Java Script SU Basics to the search developer guides.

Ross: 01:13 So we all know how Google renders Java Script.

Ross: 01:16 Firstly, the crawler comes along in wave one and pulls all of the links.

Ross: 01:21 It then goes into render queue and then, when it has enough resources,

Ross: 01:27 it will come back, render, process, and index the content.

Ross: 01:31 In our experience, Java Script websites have as much chance of survival

Ross: 01:36 as the last piece of cake in a fat camp.

Speaker 3: 01:39 Silence!

Ross: 01:40 But, in all seriousness, the guidelines are appreciated.

Ross: 01:49 But, if you’re being romanced by some developer that wants to put a reactor up

Ross: 01:54 on your five page brochure website, saying that “All this pre-rendering stuff’s

Ross: 01:58 going to take care of everything.” I have a little bit of advice for you.

Speaker 4: 02:03 Run, Forrest, Run.

Ross: 02:05 LinkedIn users can now list the services they offer on their profile.

Ross: 02:10 This new feature sees people in LinkedIn being able to list their professional services

Ross: 02:14 for the first time on their profile, which is great for anyone visiting your profile

Ross: 02:20 who is a bit thick. Hi, I’m Ross Tavendale, SEO professional.

Ross: 02:24 He offers, well SEO services.

Ross: 02:27 Just kidding, this is what I do think can actually be quite useful.

Speaker 5: 02:31 This is what I do, I sit on you, sit on you, sit on you.

Ross: 02:35 This is what I do, I sit on you. Right on your lap.

Ross: 02:39 Now, I can see all of you SEOs starting to flex on your keyboard

Ross: 02:43 and typing out every single variant of a thing you sell, but please,

Ross: 02:46 for the love of God, do not overdo this one.

Speaker 6: 02:49 I digitally put Jabba the Hutt back into the original Star Wars movie.

Ross: 02:53 I do what I want.

Ross: 02:54 That’s everything for this week’s Canonical Chronicle.

Ross: 02:56 Thank you very much for tuning in. If you’d like to follow us on social, please do.

Ross: 03:00 Until next time, we will see you later.
