## Overview

### Most US moving companies were never named by AI assistants

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#verdict

The verdict, from the writer's copy:

This quarter's index put the questions real movers ask to an AI assistant, and the answers passed over most of the market. 77% of the 118 firms surveyed appeared in no answer.

The quarter's answers favour a small set of national names and leave the rest of the market unmentioned. 91 of the 118 firms in the moving-companies US map were named in no answer (77.1%). Size made the difference between being named and being absent. Largest (traffic 100,000 and over): 11 of 16 firms were named (68.8%), against 22.9% across the market. The sources the assistant cited were almost as narrow as the names it gave. 42.7% of the 1313 citations came from 5 of the 179 domains cited.

### How do companies show up in AI?

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#overview

> **Most moving firms were never named**
>
> The index asked an AI assistant the questions real movers ask and recorded which firms each answer named. 77% of the 118 firms surveyed appeared in no answer.
>
> A firm that was never named is absent from the shortlists assistants now give movers. Finding out whether the firm's own name appeared is the first measurement worth taking.

We compared 118 companies across 128 prompts and 6 personas.

- **77%** of companies never appear in an AI answer
- **23%** appear at least once
- **12** companies appear for most buyer types
- **69%** of largest (traffic 100,000 and over) companies are visible, the highest share of any size
- **119** online platform mentions per 100 answers
- **384** answers analysed, 3 per prompt

We compared the SEO and AEO tactics to measure which optimisations move the needle.

Using our proprietary in-house framework for AEO called FEED we measured:

### What kind of pages does AI cite?

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#intent

Pages: the cited pages with each search intent. Share: out of the 419 cited pages. How the dataset labels a page: the label is what the page is for, read by a model from the page's own text; unknown: no label, because the page had no readable text.

| Page intent | Pages | Share |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| Informational | 93 | 22% |
| Commercial | 155 | 37% |
| Navigational | 35 | 8% |
| Transactional | 17 | 4% |
| Unknown | 119 | 28% |

- **419** cited pages inspected
- **22%** of cited pages are informational
- **37%** of cited pages are commercial

### Which types of page get cited?

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#pagetypes

> **Directories and review profiles lead the cited pages**
>
> Directory listing: 30 pages carried 11.9% of citations. Review platform profile: 14 pages carried 9.2% of citations.
>
> 42.7% of the 1313 citations came from 5 of the 179 domains cited. A firm's practical inventory is its entries on those directories and review platforms, not only the pages on its own site.

Pages: the cited pages of each type, share out of the 419 cited pages. Citations: the citations that point to pages of the type, share out of 1313 citations. 260 of the pages (714 citations) have no page type yet, so the page-type shares do not add up to 100%.

| Page type | Pages | Share of cited pages | Citations | Share of citations |

### Do FAQs and schema matter for AEO?

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#features

> **Cited pages carry less markup than unnamed homepages**
>
> Any schema.org markup: held by 69.3% of the cited pages, against 94.1% of the invisible homepages. FAQPage schema: held by 27.6% of the cited pages, against 20% of the invisible homepages.
>
> A firm should model its candidate pages on the pages that were cited, not add more markup to a homepage the answers never drew on.

Each figure: the share of the pages in the pile that have the feature. Cited pages: 290. Uncited comparison pages: 85.

| Feature | Cited pages | Uncited pages |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| FAQ | 28% | 20% |
| Schema | 69% | 94% |
| Q&A headers | 63% | 81% |

- **69%** of cited pages have schema
- **28%** of cited pages have FAQ schema
- **63%** of cited pages have Q&A style headers

### Does the technical checklist separate visible companies from invisible ones?

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#checklist

> **Homepage markup did not separate named from unnamed firms**
>
> Any schema.org markup: held by 88% of the named firms' homepages, against 94.1% of the unnamed. FAQ wording in the page text: held by 16% of the named firms' homepages, against 32.9% of the unnamed.
>
> These checklist items did not mark out the named firms. A firm can stop treating homepage markup as the deciding factor and attend to the pages assistants cite.

A comparison needs at least 30 homepages on each side. This issue has 25 homepages of visible companies and 85 of invisible companies, so the page draws no comparison.

### Does content length and freshness help with AEO?

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#freshness

- **67%** of named companies are named without their own domain being cited
- **0%** of named companies have a social profile cited
- **67%** of named companies are mentioned on a review platform

Each share is out of the 27 named companies on our list. How the dataset counts: firm-level: never cited on its own domain in any answer naming it; social and review are any co-citation.

### What does a page AI cites look like?

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#inspection

The most cited page in each group, measured as we captured it, beside pages the answers read but did not cite. The page shows each page's opening text: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#inspection. How the dataset picks the pages: the most-cited cited page per cluster; comparison pages are consulted-but-uncited pages of the same page type and cluster, ranked by how often the answers touched them.

> Nothing is modelled and nothing is estimated. A name either appeared in an answer or it did not, and every figure in the report can be checked against the answers.

Details on what we measured and our data methodology.

## All companies

### Every company we checked

Page section: https://typeamedia.net/reports/ai-visibility-index-moving-companies/us/#appendix

> **Every firm on the map, named or not**
>
> 118 firms were registered in the market map. 27 of the 118 registered firms appeared in the index.
>
> The appendix lists every firm in the map, from Allied Van Lines to the smallest local movers, with whether it appeared. A firm can look itself up and see whether the answers named it.

All 118 companies on the list, most mentioned first. DR is the domain rating of the company's own site. Mentions count every time the 384 answers name the company, so one answer can count more than once. The same list as JSON: the `landscape` field of https://agency.typeamedia.net/feeds/avi/moving-companies/us/q4-2026-v3.
